Wichterle-Kovarik

Specs are:
Továrna na sroje Prostéjov.  Wichterle-Kovarik.
Serial number: 2929, 4 HP @ 320 RPM. Built in the late teens.
Flywheels are 28" diameter. The engine weights about 1750 lbs.

I bought the engine during the  European Hell On Wheels Tour in the Czech Republic.
Of course it's a "project engine" again, but it's worth it. I'm not sure about the exact date it's built, but looking at the layout I think it must be a pre 1920 made engine.
This is a picture of it when I saw it for the first time.

The Tag: serial number 2929.

This photo is made on august 17th-2002 on the return from the Czech republic home.
The other engine is a 3-4 HP Benz side-shaft engine.

The business end of the engine.

The front view. Pretty much going on here.

All the bearings are made of bronze, and are in "like new" condition.
This is the main bearing. It is a bit over-seized.

The cylinder head has an unusual square hole to the combustion chamber.

The crank-shaft is well balanced.

The governor is also in "like new" condition.

The intake valve cage.

Lifting the crankshaft & flywheels.

Here we are soaking the piston in soda to work the piston ring free.
The engine was stuck when we bought it, but fortunately we had it free pretty easily.
The rings were also in great condition, so we reused them as well.

We had a new cooling tank & a new fuel tank made as the old ones were to bad to be reused.
Here is the engine at it's first show April 30 2003.
