Pumps

This are our pumps.

Goulds

This is a Goulds pump, build between 1912 and 1920? This is how the pump was when we got it.

We found this pump only 5 miles from our house. The owner called us to ask if we were interested in an old pump. We went there immediately and two hours later the engine was at his new home. We had to make all new shaft's and bushings. The connecting rod was also worn. The original was a steel rod with a bronze sleeve around it. We made a complete new conrod from stainless steel.

There is a brass plate on the pump with: Patent oct 1 1912 The pump has a bore X stroke of 4" X 5" it gives 1200 gallon per hour at 60 strokes per minute.
This is embossed in the cylinder:
  Goulds, Senega Falls, N.Y. U.S.A.

Tangye pump.

This is a Tangye pump. It is extremely heavy build. The cast iron piston is unusual long, and the pump has bronze valves. It is in reasonable condition (no rust) what makes me wonder if it is a water pump. Also the crankshaft is unusual heavy compared to the bore.

Bore X stroke is 74 X 160mm.
The piston is 17" long and crankshaft is 2½"in diameter!! However the wrist pin is only 3/4" in dia. My (wild) guess is that the the pump was in a line-shafting.

First test pumping April 2001

The 8 HP Eaton doesn't have too much trouble driving the pump.
