Sparta Economy

Specs are:
Bore X Stroke=4" X 6" , 2 HP @ 450 RPM.
Flywheel diameter is 22" , however on our engine the flywheels are 24"
Engine is made somewhere between 1910 and 1912.

We are certain the flywheels are non original, but probably replaced after an "accident" occurred and the originals were damaged. The 24" look good on the engine so we won't replace them. In this picture the engine is still on the pallet, just arrived from Oregon.

Business end of the engine. Unfortunately the original tag is missing.

The "new" flywheels are quite narrow, but look good IMO.

The bearings were completely worn out, but fortunately the crankshaft was very good.
However a "bearing pouring party" was required to pour new babbit bearings.

Here the ends are sealed with clay. The clay will be able to withstand the heat of the pour.

1-20-2002; All main parts have been painted. As you can see the flywheels need to be done.

First parts being assembled. This sure is the nicest part of the restoration!

Looking more like an engine all the time.

Almost finished, we added a new tag on it too.
The "new" serial number is: 20020. With thanks to Glenn Karch in supplying the serial # information.

Engine is finished and mounted on it's cart
