Associated 4 HP

Specs are:
Associated Manufactures Company Four Mule Team 4 HP @ 400 RPM
Bore X Stroke = 4 3/4" (now 4 7/8") X 8" Build approx 1916 Flywheels are 27" in diameter.

This is the Associated when we first got it. The engine was partly restored, but the
previous owner thought it would be to large for him.
Closer inspection learned the cylinder wall was very bad, and needed to be bored.
After the boring the diameter was increased by 1/8"

We made a truck for the engine, and tried to make it look like the original
associated trucks.
After the first attempt to get the engine running it blew out the head gasket at
it's second firing stroke. The head surface was pretty bad, so we decided to machine it.
It was quite a job to set it up in the lathe but we managed to machine the surface.

Picture of the pulley side of the engine. It has a 15" clutch pulley.

Almost finished!

A close up of the makers-plate and igniter.

The finished engine from the pulley side. The cylinder head was also fitted with new
valves and seats. we used valves with a larger stem diameter, and reamed the guides to fit.
The engine now has LOTS of compression!!

The engine is finally finished!

The associated at it's first show. Nuenen international engine show 2000.
